Mikonos ( Mykonos) is the most cosmopolitan island in Greece, where people from all walks of life and different cultures meet to create an upbeat atmosphere that is expressed by unprecedented exuberance and liveliness. Its name is known throughout the world, and even though it may be spelled Mikonos, Myconos or Mikonos, it is the same unique Greek Island that fuses cosmopolitan lifestyle and traditional features, making a multifaceted holiday destination for all types of visitors. |
Myriads of vacationers spend their holidays in Mikonos, as it is a favorite of celebrities and simple folk alike.
Mikonos island is particularly famous for its exciting nightlife, with countless bars and clubs that cater to both the straight and gay crowds. At the fantastic Mikonos beaches, visitors can spend the day lounging on soft sands, soaking up the sun's rays and dancing at beach bars. Mikonos' sophistication is evident in its high-end boutiques, trendy art galleries and chic gourmet restaurants found mainly in Town. VIPs and celebrities have made the island one of their preferred stops while sailing through the Aegean Sea in their luxury yachts.

Mikonos sights and attractions
Although Mikonos is most well-known for its beaches and superb nightlife, the island also offers a number of wonderful sights and attractions. Mikonos Town (which is also called Chora by the locals and many visitors) is the jewel of the island, with the trademark Mikonos windmills, traditional Cycladic whitewashed houses and narrow, winding alleyways that are perfect for a nonchalant stroll. The greatest monument of Mikonos Town is the 16th-17th century Church of Paraportiani, which is built in a unique asymmetrical architectural style. The Archaeological, Maritime and Folklore Museums in Town display excellent collections of historical artefacts and are worth visiting. After a day of touring the Town, it is time for a cool drink or a delicious snack in Alefkandra, the "Little Venice" of Mikonos, an area famous for its colorful buildings and their balconies which are suspended over the Aegean Sea.
Located in the village of Ano Mera, Mikonos is the 16th century Tourliani Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in the Cyclades islands cluster. The Tourliani Monastery is renowned for its beautiful wood-carved alter screen that was crafted in Florence in the 18th century and contains several exquisite ecclesiastical artefacts, including the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, which is believed to be the work of the Apostle Luke. In Platis Gialos, we suggest visting the Well of Giannaros - a large underground cistern, with a staircase that leads to its bottom as well as the three towers that were built during the Hellenistic Era and used to defend Mikonos Island. |
Delos, a magnificent island located opposite Mikonos, is one of the finest archaeological sights in the world and a wonder for all visitors to see. This open-air museum includes many well-preserved ancient monuments and an Archaeological Museum that contains an impressive collection of objects from digs on the island. According to mythology, Delos was the birthplace of two Olympian gods: Apollo and Artemis, and was a great commercial and religious center during ancient times |
